Shepway Voices

A community choir for adults from Folkestone & Hythe and surrounding areas.

Who Are Shepway Voices?

Shepway Voices is a choir for EVERYONE. Maybe you've never sung in public before... Maybe you've been in a choir your whole life... Whatever your musical background, come and join us! We've been told that our warm and welcoming approach makes us stand out from the crowd. There are no auditions and you don't need to be able to read music. Just come and sing!

We sing a wide variety of music - from pop to folk, gospel, traditional choral and pieces from other cultures where we can honour their origins... Whatever we fancy! One week you could be singing Adele, the next week a Zimbabwean folk tune, the week after that a jazzy number.

We perform at a range of events, from our own concerts in the summer and at Christmas, to local festivals, charity events, weddings, fayres and wherever we're invited. Performing might seem daunting at first, but it's something our singers say they get a real boost from.

Why Join?

Build lasting friendships and meet people from different backgrounds - All of our members love to sing, but three quarters of them say they keep coming back because of the chance to meet people and develop friendships. Our mid-rehearsal tea and coffee break helps with this! We love that we're inter-generational and have members in their 20s and their 90s. We're working hard at making sure we represent all parts of our community too.

Support your wellbeing - Nearly half our members say they sing with Shepway Voices to support their mental health and wellbeing. Whether dealing with illness, grief - or just the every day anxieties of being human - singing and connecting with others can be a vital tool in coping, gaining inner strength, and feeling liberated.

Connect with your body and develop your vocal abilities - Singing is good for the body and mind! We don't just learn tunes and lyrics - we work on technique, and build awareness of breath, posture, and resonance - helping you feel more grounded, expressive, and confident in your voice.

How do I join?

If you'd like to join us, just turn up and give it a go! Someone from our Choirs Team will be there at the door to welcome you.

Shepway Voices rehearsals start at 7:30pm on Wednesdays at the FBC Centre on Hill Road, Folkestone. Our rehearsals are free to the community, with a suggested donation of £5.

We're a choir for anyone over the age of 18 and keep going every Wednesday evening throughout the year, other than two weeks off over Christmas/ New Year (although we still find opportunities to sing together in the break!).

For any more info just use the contact details at the bottom of this page and one of our friendly team will get in touch.

Shepway Voices was established in 2011, and is run by the charity 'Music and Arts for the Shepway Community'. The Musical Director for Shepway Voices is Anne Griffiths. Anne joined in 2026 and brings with her a wealth of musical and group facilitation experience and looks forward to welcoming you.
